The awards were arranged in partnership with Group Development Pakistan, Women in Law Initiative Pakistan, Australian High Commission and British High Commission.

The event took off with a symposium on diversity and inclusion followed by the launch of Pakistan Journal of Diversity and Inclusion.

The ministry had called upon all women & male champions associated with the legal profession to come forward and support the awards as a way to recognize achievements of women in the legal profession.

According to its statement the “awards will recognise contributions of entities such as bar councils, law firms, law schools, law departments etc and male champions committed to gender equality and diversity.”

Asma Hamid won the award for ‘Advocate of the year,’ and Maliha Zia Lari was declared winner in the category ‘Outstanding Comeback of the Year.’ The awards also recognised some rising stars in the legal professions.

Member of the National Assembly, Barrister Maleeka Bokhari congratulated women in the legal profession in a tweet. She termed the day of the awards as a “historic day.”

A diplomat from UK Iona Thomas also tweeted about the event.

The winner of the ‘Advocate of the Year’ category, Asma Hamid shared her “delight” on attending the first every women in law awards.
