Captioned “Poor But Not Irresponsible,” the poster seems to be directing the visitors to the mall to learn from the lower income people, who despite having lack of social standing follow COVID-19 standard operating procedures and cover their faces with masks.

The tweet by Jaferrii and the poster garnered the attention of many, including Senator Sherry Rehman, who said, “Unbelievable! “Poor, but not irresponsible!” goes the dehumanising, classist, poverty-trashing caption. Marie Antoinette has finally been outdone.”

Former finance minister Miftah Ismail also found the classist message on the poster disturbing.

One user demanded the mall’s management to take strict action against people who put up the poster.

Another person said that there’s no need to degrade an entire social class to impart a message.

This user even called out the ones condemning the poster.

Jaferii wasn’t the only one who tweeted an image of the poster. Faryal Arslan also captured a photograph of the poster, which she posted on her profile.

This isn’t the first time Centaurus Mall has become part of a controversy. In 2015, the mall enforced an entry fee of Rs. 100 on visitors and the class policing was not taken lightly by the public.

People had called out the mall's management on social media.
