The Khatm-i-Nabuwat is a declaration of a person's faith in the Prophet (peace be upon him) as being the last one in Islam and anyone claiming otherwise is considered a non-Muslim.

This follows the assembly's session on October 27 where it adopted a resolution to include the Khatm-i-Nabuwat in the nikahnama.

According to media reports on Friday, all the witnesses to the marriage ceremony, along with the bride and groom will have to attest to the Prophet (pbuh).

The Punjab Assembly consists of 297 members. The Pakistan Tehreek i Insaf has a majority of members with 182, followed by Pakistan Muslim League N with 164 members. The Pakistan Muslim League Q has 10 members while the Peoples Party has 7 members. The rest are independent and one member from Pakistan Rahe Haq.

There are 7 non-Muslim members on reserved seats for minorities.

The Khatm-i-Nabuwat was added to the Elections Act, 2017 where a voter had to sign a declaration of faith before exercising their vote.
