Responding to a screenshot of the tweet, which has now been deleted from the sender's profile, a social media user noted that Kohli's daughter was being threatened because her father supported his Muslim team mate, Muhammad Shami.

Shami was being trolled online because of his religion after Pakistan defeated India in a Twenty20 World Cup match by 7 wickets.

Later, Kohli issued a statement in support of his team player and said: "Attacking someone over their religion is the most, I would say, pathetic thing that a human being can do."

Supporting Kohli, another user was "horrified and disgusted" to read the threatening tweet for Vamika.
