NAB approaches IHC seeking cancellation of bails of Maryam, Safdar

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for cancellation of bail of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz and her husband Captain (retd) Safdar.

NAB filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court seeking cancellation of bail of Maryam and her husband.

The 39-page petition filed under Article 199, states that Maryam Nawaz misused her bail.

The petition also states that Maryam Nawaz considered every NAB appearance a political theater and converts the courtroom into a press club.

The petition further said that Maryam Nawaz misused the bail exemption, she is not eligible for bail, she was given relief on being a woman. The bail should be declared null and void, it added.

NAB said that an accountability court handed a seven years imprisonment sentence and £2 million fine to Maryam Nawaz in the Avenfield apartments reference on July 6, 2018 and had also disqualified Maryam for holding any public office.

NAB pleaded the court to cancel the bails granted to Maryam and Safdar on September 19, 2018.

On the other hand, two member bench of the high court will hear pleas against verdict of Avenfield reference tomorrow (Wednesday).
