Arrest warrants of Saba Qamar, Bilal Saeed issued

A sessions court in Lahore has issued bailable arrest warrants for actress Saba Qamar and singer Bilal Saeed in a case related to the shooting of controversial video at Wazir Ali Khan Mosque last year.

The duo were recording for Saeed's song 'Qabul Hai' which Qamar also directed. Prior to the song's release, the two had faced criticism from religious circles on social media.

An FIR was registered against the duo under Section 295 of the Pakistan Penal Code in August 2020 after they shot a video in the mosque. It said the accused "violated the sanctity of the mosque and severely offended the religious sentiments of Muslims by dancing inside the mosque."

The duo apologized for the video and their lawyer called the FIR baseless, saying there was no dance in the video.

On Wednesday however, Lahore Judicial Magistrate Jawariya Munir Bhatti issued the warrants for Qamar and Saeed and set the bail at Rs30,000 each.

Qamar and Saeed failed to appear in court when the challan was presented.

The next hearing has been set for October 6.
