Video of Junaid Safdar singing at his nikah wins hearts

The video of Junaid Safdar, son of Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar, singing at his nikah on Sunday has been widely shared and praised.

Junaid Safdar tied the knot with Aisha Saifur Rehman at a lavish reception. His parents did not attend the wedding as they are not allowed to leave the country and Maryam Nawaz said she wouldn't ask this government for permission to attend.

During the event, while the singer ostensibly hired for the event was performing an old Bollywood song "Kya hua tera vada" he handed the mic over to Junaid who sang it solo and surprised the internet with his melodius voice.

The song is from the 1977 film Hum Kissi Se Kum Nahin and was sung by Mohammad Rafi and Sushma Shreshta.

This isnt the first time Junaid took to the mic.

In 2019, he sang a tribute for his grandfather Nawaz Sharif at a qawalli in London as reported by Geo.

Safdar, who was then studying a Masters at the London School of Economics belted out a tune at the event organized by various Pakistani student societies.

He performed two Sufi kalam but was especially remembered for singing the lines “Kee hoya jo aaj qaidi banay, seda qaidi nahee rehan (so what if there is imprisonment today, this imprisonment will not last forever)”. People took this to be a nod to his then imprisoned grandfather which he confirmed in his interview to Geo.

Interestingly, Twitter was ablaze when the couple's pictures from the nikah surfaced, with many people asking why they had such a lavish wedding at Pakistani taxpayers expense, for example. But it appers Junaid's voice has been met with much appreciation.
