Shehbaz condemns Quetta blast, calls for focusing on NAP

While condemning Sunday's blast in Quetta which killed two police men, opposition leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif called for a focus on the National Action Plan.

In a message on Twitter, he stressed the need for the NAP due to the internal security challenges which, according to him, have become “aggravated”.

Talking about the National Action Plan, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz president said, “The document contained will of the whole nation and can cater to emergent threats to national security.”

National Counter Terrorism Authority and Ministry of Interior in consultation with the stakeholders chalked out a 20-point NAP for countering terrorism and extremism. It was approved by the Parliament in December 2014 right after the Army Public School attack.

A national consensus vowed to come down hard on the terrorists through a concerted national effort, according to the plan.

Two policemen were killed, while 21 others sustained injuries in a blast at Quetta’s Zarghoon Road on Sunday, reported Aaj News.

A police van was reportedly the target of the blast in which explosives were planted on a motorcycle near the city’s University Chowk.

According to the bomb disposal squad, four kilogrammes of explosives were used in the blast.

The injured, which included 12 policemen and other people, were shifted to the Civil Hospital Quetta.

A timed device was used in the powerful blast which shattered windows of nearby buildings, said Quetta Deputy Inspector General Azhar Ikram, reported Geo.

He said the injured were receiving special treatment at the hospital, however, three of them were in critical condition.

Meanwhile, one person was injured in a grenade attack at Saryab road on Sunday.

Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who was in Quetta for a rally also condemned the blast, saying “the government must stop appeasing terrorists and implement the National Action Plan.”

In reply to the Tweet of Bilawal, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said the "sponsors of terrorism in Pakistan" was India.
