PM orders arrest of Afghan envoy's daughter's kidnappers in 48 hours

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday ordered Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed to arrest the culprits involved in the temporary “kidnapping” of the Afghan envoy’s daughter in Islamabad.

Ambassador Najibullah Alikhil’s daughter, Silsila, was abducted in Islamabad on Friday and tortured she claims by her assailants.

Pakistan's Foreign Office however on Saturday described the incident as her being "manhandled" and said police was looking for the culprits.

Sheikh Rasheed tweeted that he had been directed by Khan to "utilize all resources to apprehend the persons involved in the kidnapping" of Silsila Alikhil.

In an interview to APP, Rasheed said the law enforcement agencies would arrest the culprits soon, adding they had found a taxi driver who had dropped Silsila.

The 27-year-old woman was on her way home in a taxi from Blue Area when the driver stopped to pick up a man who is believed to have assaulted her.

Silsila was left unconscious and upon waking went to a private hospital, where police was called. They took her to Pims for treatment and examination. Medical reports confirm the assault.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant security authorities are closely in contact with the Ambassador and his family and extending full support in the matter,” they said in a statement.

The Afghan MoFA condemned the “heinous act” and expressed its “deep concern” for the safety of its staff and families in their missions in Pakistan.
