The accident happened on Monday when the Sargodha bound Millat Express derailed near Ghotki, Sukkhar and the Karachi bound Sir Syed Express hit it soon afterward. Rescue efforts were conducted by the Pakistan Army, Rangers, and a team of Punjab's Rescue 1122.

Soon after the incident happened, Prime Minister Imran Khan ordered a "comprehensive investigation into railway safety faultlines." On the directives of the prime minister, the Federal Minister for Railways Azam Swati asked authorities to submit an initial investigation report within 24 hours of the incident.

The inquiry report will be made public and those responsible for it will be taken to task, said Swati while speaking to the media during his visit to Shaikh Zayed Medical College Hospital (SZMCH).

According to an initial investigation report into the incident, the train accident happened after Millat Express derailed because of the track's broken welding joint.

According to the details, the rescue officials had recovered black boxes from both trains, and data extracted from them was used to conduct in-depth investigations into the deadly train crash.

As per Geo News, the accident took place between 3:40 and 3:45 am when the welding joint of the up track's right side broke. As a result, 12 coaches of the Sargodha bound Millat Express to crash onto a down track.

The report is expected to be made public today (Wednesday).
