Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ordered recounting of votes in NA 249 Karachi by election.

The Election Commission gave the judgment in an application filed by the PML (N) leader Miftah Ismail.

The Commission directed all the parties to reach Returning Officer Office on Thursday at nine am for recounting of votes.

The decision said that the Regional Election Commissioner would assist the Hyderabad RO while all the candidates were directed to reach the RO office on May 6 at 9 am for counting.

The ECP had reserved its decision after hearing the arguments of all parties at the request of PML-N's Miftah Ismail.

Decision reserved on request for recount of votes in NA-249

Earlier, the Election Commission reserved its decision on the PML-N's request for recount of votes in NA-249.

A four-member commission headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja heard the request of PML-N candidate Miftah Ismail for recount.

PML-N lawyer Salman Akram Raja and PPP lawyer Latif Khosa gave arguments in this regard.

Besides, PML-N candidates Miftah Ismail, Maryam Aurangzeb, Musaddiq Malik and Muhammad Zubair appeared before the commission while PPP candidates Qadir Mandokhel, Saeed Ghani, Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and Farooq H Naik appeared before the ECP.

PML-N lawyer Salman Akram Raja also called for recount, investigation and re-election.

Salman Akram Raja said that the presiding officers did not sign Form 45, the Election Commission must intervene.

PPP lawyer Latif Khosa took the position that PML-N did not lodge any complaint in any forum during the polling, irregularities have to be pointed out, recount is possible at a difference of less than five per cent. After hearing the arguments of both the lawyers the ECP reserved the decision.

Later, the ECP announced the reserved decision and ordered recounting of votes in NA 249 Karachi by election.
