Pakistan Peoples Party has emerged victorious in the NA-249 by-election held on Thursday in Karachi's District West as per the provisional results released early on Friday. Results show a close contest between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and PPP in the final count.

PPP's Abdul Qadir Mandokhel gained 16,156 votes, followed by PML-N's Miftah Ismail who secured 15,473. The third position went to Nazir Ahmed of recently banned TLP as he received 11,125 votes, as per the unofficial results.

Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) chairman Syed Mustafa Kamal received 9,227 votes and fourth position, followed by PTI's Amjad Afridi with 8,922 votes.

Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari took to Twitter to celebrate the victory. In a tweet, he said:

"Thank you, Karachi. #NA249"

Meanwhile, PML-N's vice president Maryam Nawaz accused PPP of stealing the election results. Taking to Twitter Maryam said, "Election stolen from PMLN by only a few hundred votes." She demanded that ECP takes notice and withhold the results.

"Election stolen from PMLN by only a few hundred votes. ECP must withhold the results of one of the most disputed & controversial elections. Even if it doesn’t, this victory will be temporary, and will Insha’Allah come back to PMLN soon.
