Pak/ Covid: 131 new deaths and 5,112 new cases reported

In the past 24 hours, 49,099 people were sampled in Pakistan for COVID-19, out of which 5,112 tested positive.

As per the latest figures shared by the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), the current Covid situation of Pakistan is as follows:

Total cases: 820,823
Cases in last 24 hours: 5,112

Total tests conducted in last 24 hours: 49,099

Positivity % in last 24 hours: 10.41%

Total casualties: 17,811
Deaths in last 24 hours: 131

The third wave of Covid-19 is overwhelming the healthcare system of Pakistan as oxygen beds are filling up fast. The positivity rate has soared in the past couple of months prompting the government to implement stringent lockdown measures in districts where the positivity rate is consistently high.

Amidst this crisis, one good news is that Pakistan has finally amped up its coronavirus vaccination drive in the past week or so. Nowadays, over 100,000 patients are being given the jabs daily. Now people aged over 40 can also register themselves for the vaccine while above 50 people can get their jabs via walk-in.

Health experts believe that the only way to flatten the Covid-19 curve is strict adherence to the SOPs and mass vaccination campaigns. Pakistani public and authorities need to understand it before it is too late.
