Today, February 2nd marks the day when the coronavirus vaccination campaign will begin in Pakistan. Federal minister for planning and development Asad Umar announced this via his Twitter handle a few hours ago.

Umar, who also heads the National Command and Operations Center, tweeted:

The coronavirus vaccination campaign will start today in the presence of the Prime Minister and tomorrow the national coronavirus vaccination campaign will start in all the provincial capitals, God willing.

The planning minister further added that the healthcare providers will be given priority in the immunization campaign.

The vaccine will be given to frontline health workers first, tweeted Asad Umar.

The Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines which were gifted to Pakistan by China arrived in the capital yesterday. Pakistan's de-facto health minister Dr. Faisal Sultan tweeted about it. He wrote:

Alhamdulilah the first batch of Sinopharm vaccine has arrived! Grateful to China and everyone who made this happen. NCOC & provinces played an instrumental role in tackling COVID. I salute our frontline healthcare workers for their efforts & they will be the first to get vaccinated.
