Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz on Wednesday has said the economy stands stabilized because of the efforts and effective policies of the current government.

While talking to the media in Islamabad, the federal minister said the benefits of improvement in economic indicators will reach the masses soon. He said the inflation has been brought down to single-digit and the prices of essential commodities are coming down.

Faraz, while commenting on the current account deficit, said that PTI has brought the deficit down to zero and the country's foreign exchange reserves have also improved. He said large scale manufacturing is witnessing major growth and exports have increased whilst the imports have decreased.

The information minister said six trillion rupees were used to pay back the past loans and the interest on them while 1.2 trillion rupees were provided to support different sectors especially the disadvantaged segments of the society in the wake of the breakout of Covid-19.

The minister added that opposition parties are resorting to negative propaganda on the issue of loans taken by the present government.

While addressing the opposition alliance, Faraz said there is no consensus amongst the opposition parties as they are pursuing conflicting narratives and interests.

The federal minister also touched on the subject of upcoming Senate elections and open ballot. He said that the government has sought the advice of the Supreme Court on open balloting and added that the PTI government has prepared a bill on the matter and it will be seen whether or not the opposition supports the legislation.
