Pakistan to build two new water dams, says PM Khan

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday announced that Pakistan will build two new water dams, Mohmand and Bhasha, to meet the ever-growing demand for electricity. The work on these two new projects started almost five decades after the completion of the existing Tarbela and Mangla dam.

The prime minister made the announcement while sharing a video of under construction Mohmand Dam on the social-networking website Twitter. In his tweet, Khan said:

"After Mangla & Tarbela, five decades later Pakistan is going to have
two big water dams, Mohmand and Basha."

The primer further added that "the construction of Mohmand Dam, located on Swat River, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is well underway. Once completed, the dam will generate 800 MW of hydroelectricity, irrigate over 16,000 acres of land, and contribute heavily to the socio-economic uplift of the region."
