A division bench, headed by Justice K K Agha, heard the case today and directed the police to take the girl back to a shelter home and proceed against her alleged husband for violating the Sindh Child Marriages Restraint Act 2013.

Arzoo had maintained in the previous hearings that she is an adult and she consented to the conversion and marriage. The minor reiterated the same line of argument during today's hearing that she had not been kidnapped and had willingly married Syed Ali Azhar after converting to Islam.

However, based on the medical report and the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) record bench observed that Arzoo is underage and could not contract a marriage of her own free will.

Jibran Nasir — who is part of the legal team fighting the case on behalf of Arzoo's parents — also confirmed the development. In a tweet, he said:

"#ArzooRaja case update! The medical test proves Arzoo is around 14 yrs. The court recognizes NADRA docs stating Arzoo's age to be 13 as true. Declares prima facie she contracted child marriage. Arzoo to remain in shelter home till next hearing."

Case hearing has been adjourned for two weeks.
