The PTI leader had moved to the United Kingdom seven months ago and had stayed in his Hampshire country home throughout his trip. The timing of his trip coincided with when the Sugar Commission report was issued - he was named amongst those who benefited heavily from the sugar crisis.

While speaking to media at the airport, Tareen dismissed speculation about his reasons for leaving Pakistan and the findings of the report, saying that he went to the UK for his yearly medical check-up.

"It is the Opposition's job to hurl allegations and I do not feel that there is a need to reply to them. Thanks to the Almighty, all my business is clean.”

Upon his return, the PTI leader also clarified that his company, JDW Sugar Mills, was not part of any petition against the Punjab government's decision to commence sugar crushing on November 10. In a tweet, Jhanagir said:

"I am pleased to confirm that, JDW Sugar Mills Ltd, has completed the supply of 20,000 tons of Sugar to Utility Stores at the heavily discounted price of Rs 67/kg. The current ex mill price is Rs 90/kg. Happy to have met my commitment made in a TV program."
