On Monday, Prime Minister Imran Khan addressed the nation on the current situation of Coronavirus in the country.

The tally of coronavirus cases has already exceeded 1 lac in Pakistan and the fatality rate is alarming too. On average, almost 4000-5000 new cases and 50-100 deaths caused by the virus are being reported daily. The situation is getting worse day by day.

The premier said the government anticipates that coronavirus cases in the country will peak by the end of July or early August. He said:

“We expect our peak to come by the end of July or August and then we will witness a reduction in transmission of new cases. The virus will spread. The worldwide trend our experts observed is that virus spreads, then peaks after a few weeks and then the curve flattens." 

While addressing the public on state television, PM further said :

“We can manage the pandemic if we observe the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in place and take precautions. By not adhering to SOPs we are threatening the lives of our elderly.”

He also urged the nation to wear masks whenever they go in public as it effectively stops the spread of the disease up to fifty percent.

PM Khan also reiterated that a total lockdown is not the solution to the COVID-19 in our country, saying:

“During the lockdown, laborers and lower-income groups went through a very difficult period. We, being an underdeveloped country, had no other option than to reopen businesses.”
