Web Desk: A recent research findings revealed that people who sleep late at night tends to have more social networks than who sleep early.

The study showed that our inherent periods of sleep are connected with our social interaction. The night owls are more central in their own networks.

The research was conducted by doctoral researcher at Aalto University in Finland, Talayeh Aledavood. He used anonymous mobile phone data to study people’s behavior. Sleeping time can be inferred from period of no smartphone use. Instead of sleeping, they make calls to friends and use social networks based on calls, texts or emails.

The findings also indicated different social disorders. Aledavood said, “There are no clear-cut biomarkers for detecting mental disorders as there are for diabetes or tumours, so you have to find new ways to seek them out,”

“Disruptions in sleep rhythms can indicate several mental disorders, and my plan is to infer these disturbances from data collected from people’s use of digital devices,” he added.

The main motive of this research is to develop a system that help patients to seek professional help before their condition turns severe. She said, “We have to be sure that a data collecting method or app is actually beneficial for a patient’s well-being and treatment.”
