KARACHI: A lawmaker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Asif Hasnain, has announced that he has quit the MQM and joined Mustafa Kamal's Pak Sarzamin Party (PSP).

The MQM's Member National Assembly (MNA) announced the decision at a press conference here on Sunday along with PSP leader Mustafa Kamal.

Asif Hasnain, who was elected from NA-255 Landhi, Karachi, said that he took the decision in the wake of anti-Pakistan speech by Altaf Hussain.

"I announce leaving Altaf Hussain's MQM owing to his anti-Pakistan remarks," he said adding that in view of the MQM leader's negative approach there was no justification for him to continue as an MNA of the party.

He made it clear that he did not take such a decision because of any pressure from any quarter.

PSP chief Mustafa Kamal welcomed Asif Hasnain into his party.

He maintained that disassociation announced by Farooq Sattar from the MQM founder was a deception, as he is not "competent enough to run the MQM without patronage of Altaf Hussain".

Mustafa Kamal also advised Farooq Sattar to "start telling the truth now".
