KARACHI: As investigation of the attack move to its second phase, phone calls linked to the attack have been traced to a foreign country, Aaj Tv reported.

The police has arrested two people for interrogation in links to the calls.

Meanwhile, police is waiting for forensic reports of the weapons use in the attack.

Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a community bus carrying members of the Ismaili sect at Safoora Chowrangi on Wednesday. The attack left 45 dead and injured 13.

The gun men first shot down the driver, causing the bus to stop. Then they climbed the bus and sprayed the passengers with bullets.

They left pamphlets with demands at the crime scene, television news reported.

As news of the incident was received, rescue teams, police and Rangers arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area.

Over 150 empty bullet shells of 9mm pistols were found at the crime scene.

Condolence for the victims poured in soon after the attack. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Army Cheif Raheel Shareef and Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah visited the place of attack.

Prince Karim Aga Khan, spiritual leaders of the Ismailis expressed shock and grief at the loss of lives.

“This attack represents a senseless act of violence against a peaceful community. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and the families of those killed and wounded in the attack,” the Aga Khan said, in a statement released earlier.

The Aga Khan noted that the Ismailis are a peaceful global community living in harmony with other religious and ethnic groups in many countries across the world, including in the Muslim world.

This was the first time the Ismaili community was attacked in a sectarian attack.

A top brass meeting of politicians and army officials was held after attack to discuss measures to prevent such blatant attacks of terrorism.

Meanwhile, a candle light vigil will be held outside the Sindh Assembly to remember the victims of the bus carnage.
