MULTAN: An under-trial prisoner facing murder charge climbed up the water tank of district jail Multan on Friday and threatened to jump if authorities did not accept his demand of a meeting with his female co-accused, a jail official said.

The prisoner, however, came down in a dramatic way, around five hours after he had embarked on his climbing adventure. He jumped but his 'Chaddar' got entangled with metallic stairs prompting officials and rescuers to swiftly bring him down and free his neck from 'Chaddar'.

A jail official said that he has been shifted to jail hospital after his meeting with the female co-accused who was brought to district jail from New Central jail in a prison van.

Ghulam Muhammad r/o Barkhan (Balochistan) was shifted to district jail on Nov 2 after registration of a murder FIR with PS Shah Shams citing him and a woman, Najbiha, as the accused. They had allegedly killed a man Sahibuddin over a monetary dispute.

Shah Shams police said that Muhammad Hassan, the husband of Najbiha, was confined in New Central Jail Multan in a kidnapping for ransom case.

Deputy Superintendent district jail Tipu Sultan said that prisoner Ghulam Muhammad had climbed up the water tank and demanded to meet his co-accused Najbiha. He has been brought down, he added.

SSP Operations Chaudhry Saleem said that the prisoner would face a case on charge of creating hurdles in performance of police duty, attempt to commit suicide and attempt to escape from the prison.
