According to initial reports, a group of militants attacked a security forces' check post in Maskini Dara, an area of Dir Lower. At least 14 soldiers were killed in the attack.

Officials said the fighting was still ongoing Friday morning. They did not know how many militants died in the clashes in the Khankai area of Lower Dir.

Several soldiers were also injured in the attack, and the army shifted the bodies and injured to a hospital in Timergara, a main town in the Dir district.

The injured were later shifted to Peshawar.
