      <description>&lt;p&gt;Agnes Chan, a Hong Kong-born singer and television personality who is popular in Japan, has successfully undergone breast cancer surgery at a Tokyo hospital, her manager said Wednesday.&lt;br /&gt;
The 52-year-old Chan, also known as an essayist and novelist, is scheduled to be released from St Luke's Hospital on Friday following her treatment there on Monday, Tsutomu Kaneko said.&lt;br /&gt;
"She is consulting her doctor in the hope of resuming her work as soon as possible," he said.&lt;br /&gt;
A lump was discovered in Chan's right breast on September 19 and was later diagnosed to be in the initial stage of breast cancer, the manager said.&lt;br /&gt;
Agnes wishes to "overcome cancer in a bright and delightful manner" and apologises for any inconvenience to her fans, he said.&lt;/p&gt;
