Speaking to USA Today, the Tulsa King star dismissed criticism over the casting of his daughter, Scarlet Rose Stallone, acknowledging that she benefited from her family connections.

“Of course it’s nepotism, you idiot,” Stallone said, arguing that parents who do not use their influence to help their children are failing to put their families first.

He said parents naturally want the best for their children and should give them every possible advantage.

However, Stallone acknowledged that family connections could only open doors and could not guarantee lasting success.

“Can they maintain that level of excellence? That’s out of our hands,” he said, adding that parents could provide an opportunity but it was up to their children to prove they had the ability to succeed.

Addressing criticism that celebrity offspring often find it easier to secure jobs, Stallone conceded that getting a role might be easier for them but said sustaining success in front of millions of viewers ultimately depended on talent.

Ameer shared the news on Instagram, posting a hospital video in which he was seen reciting a prayer for his newborn son.

In his caption, Ameer revealed that the baby’s name, Azmar, means “lion”. He described his son as “the king of our jungle, our pride, our littlest most precious treasure” and expressed gratitude with the words “Alhamdulillah”.

The post also featured a Quranic verse: “And your Lord will surely give you, and you will be content.”

Mawra shared the announcement on her Instagram Story, saying the couple had finally decided to reveal their little secret to the world.

Skerritt, a Detroit native whose Hollywood career spanned from the 1960s to the 2020s, died on ​Wednesday of natural causes, his family said in a statement.

“While the world knew Tom through his remarkable acting career, we knew ‌him for his humour, curiosity, wisdom, generosity, and the love he brought into our lives,” they said.

“He cared deeply about imagination, creativity, storytelling, service, veterans, the natural world, and helping others find and share their own voices.”

Known for his rugged good looks and ability to shine in a variety of genres, Skerritt delivered memorable performances in leading and supporting roles ​in film and television.

Skerritt’s breakthrough role was a roguish US Army surgeon in director Robert Altman’s 1970 Korean War black comedy “M*A*S*H,” a film ​whose ensemble cast also included Donald Sutherland, Elliott Gould and Sally Kellerman.

Skerritt played Southerner Duke Forrest as one of the doctors ⁠at the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital who stitched up wounded troops.

The film, whose popularity coincided with American unease over the Vietnam War, was nominated for five ​Academy Awards.

In director Ridley Scott’s claustrophobic 1979 sci-fi horror “Alien,” Skerritt played Dallas, the captain of an ill-fated spacecraft whose crew encounters a deadly parasitic extraterrestrial creature ​with a surrealist look and a bad attitude.

In the film’s famous and bloody “chestburster” scene, Skerritt’s character is seated next to cast mate John Hurt when a baby alien violently exits the torso of Hurt’s character.

“Alien,” an influential masterpiece whose ensemble cast also included Sigourney Weaver and Ian Holm, earned two Oscar nominations.

“It is spontaneity and impulse that make the ​difference, and that is what I felt we had with ‘Alien.’ Every one of us had that immediate rapport with each other — the respect that I ​had for the other actors and the respect that they had for me,” Skerritt told interviewer Peter Sobczynski in 2019, while also lauding Scott’s directorial brilliance.

“Alien” was one of ‌several films ⁠in which Skerritt appeared that featured strong female characters, in this case Weaver’s courageous character Ripley. That was considered pioneering at the time.

“When I read the script, one of the things that I liked most about it was that the woman becomes the hero. I loved that,” Skerritt said.

“The sight of women being in positions of strength and fortitude to make the right connections and decisions was what appealed to me. I experienced that as well in ‘Steel Magnolias,’ with ​the women in that. I liked ​the idea of women being tough ⁠and strong and influential.”

In “Steel Magnolias” (1989), Skerritt played Drum Eatenton, husband of Sally Field’s M’Lynn Eatenton.

Tony Scott, the brother of the “Alien” director, cast Skerritt in the key supporting role of naval aviation instructor Viper Metcalf in the 1986 blockbuster “Top Gun” ​that helped star Tom Cruise soar into Hollywood’s stratosphere.

Skerritt also played Shirley MacLaine’s husband in director Herbert Ross’s ​1977 ballet drama “The Turning ⁠Point,” and starred alongside another emerging star in Brad Pitt, in Robert Redford’s beautifully shot 1992 period drama “A River Runs Through It.”

Among other films in which he appeared were: “Harold and Maude” (1971), “Ice Castles” (1978), “The Dead Zone” (1983), “Poltergeist III” (1988), “Contact” (1997), “Tears of the Sun” (2003) and “Ted” (2012).

On the small screen, Skerritt starred in the offbeat CBS series “Picket Fences” from 1992 to 1996, playing ⁠a Wisconsin ​town sheriff and claiming an Emmy as outstanding lead actor in a drama series in ​1993.

Born on August 25, 1933, in Detroit, Skerritt served in the US Air Force before becoming an actor, making his film debut in 1962 alongside a young Redford in “War Hunt.” He was a ​father of five children and was married three times.

The AFI, a nonprofit dedicated ​to preserving and promoting movies, has bestowed ​the honour annually since 1973.

Previous ⁠recipients include Bette Davis, Gene Kelley, Elizabeth ​Taylor and Tom Hanks.

Cruise is known throughout the ​film business as one of the biggest champions of cinemas.

“As an actor and producer, he brings an ​extraordinary commitment to everything he does,“ ​said producer Kathleen Kennedy, chair of AFI’s board of ‌trustees.

“What ⁠I especially admire is his deep belief in movies and their ability to bring people together.”

Cruise has been nominated for three Academy ​Awards for ​acting and ⁠received an honorary Oscar last year for his lifetime of work.

His ​films include Jerry Maguire, Minority Report, A Few Good ​Men, Rain ⁠Man and the Mission: Impossible series.

Cruise’s latest movie, the big-budget dark comedy Digger, has struggled at ⁠the ​box office, finishing fifth on ​US and Canadian charts in its opening weekend in ​October.

Wright Entertainment Inc. announced on Monday that Riehle died on October 15. The company did not disclose the cause of death or further details.

“Our industry has lost an exceptional talent, and our community has lost a truly wonderful man,” the company said in a statement.

Riehle’s career spanned nearly five decades, during which he appeared in numerous films and television productions.

His roles included a quartermaster in the American Civil War drama “Glory,” a prison guard in “The Fugitive” and an air marshal in “Executive Decision.”

He also played a police officer in an episode of “The West Wing” and a principal in the television adaptation of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”

In 2017, entertainment publication The A.V. Club described him as an actor frequently considered for roles requiring a burly, outspoken man with a moustache.

From University Theatre to Hollywood

Riehle began pursuing acting during his senior year at the University of Notre Dame. Facing financial constraints, he was told he could complete the required speech and drama credits in a single semester.

He took the opportunity and became involved in various aspects of theatre, including acting, directing and set construction. His work earned him a teaching assistantship at the University of Minnesota, where he went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree.

“I spent a semester doing anything and everything that you do in the theatre — acting, directing, building sets, etc. — and then for some reason they liked what I did enough that they got me a teaching assistantship at the University of Minnesota,” he told The A.V. Club.

He added that he decided to continue his studies because the university was supporting him financially.

Riehle made his film debut with speaking lines in the 1977 movie “Joyride,” which starred Desi Arnaz Jr., Anne Lockhart, Robert Carradine and Melanie Griffith.

He later appeared in the comedy “Bridesmaids,” Woody Allen’s comedy-mystery “Shadows and Fog,” the crime thriller “Black Rain” alongside Michael Douglas, and the sitcom “Grounded for Life.”

Remembered for ‘Office Space’ Role

One of Riehle’s best-known performances came in the 1999 comedy “Office Space,” in which he played Tom Smykowski, an employee at the fictional company Initech who faces being laid off despite insisting that he has valuable people skills.

The character’s memorable line, “I have people skills!”, became one of the film’s best-known moments.

Riehle also had a longstanding connection with the “Star Trek” franchise, appearing in three television series: “Star Trek: The Next Generation” in 1992, “Star Trek: Voyager” in 2000 and “Star Trek: Enterprise” in 2004.

His stage career included three Broadway appearances, one of which was in a 1999 revival of Eugene O’Neill’s play “The Iceman Cometh,” alongside Paul Giamatti.

Wright Entertainment praised Riehle not only for his acting but also for his support of emerging talent.

“Beyond his immense talent, he will be remembered for his genuine goodness, boundless kindness, and unwavering generosity, particularly toward emerging actors and filmmakers, whom he encouraged and supported at every opportunity,” the company said.

The 36-year-old actor was in a car leaving a football club when gunmen opened fire at close range.

Maharashtra police have registered a case against three unidentified individuals and formed 15 teams to track them down.

A purported social media post attributed to members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the attack and threatened others in the film industry working with actor Salman Khan.

Police have yet to verify the post’s authenticity or confirm the gang’s involvement.

In the post, the alleged gang members claimed they had warned Shroff before the shooting and threatened further attacks against those who ignored their demands.

Indian police officer’s performance goes viral

The song gained further attention last week when Nishant Mishra, a sub-inspector with Uttar Pradesh Police, went viral for singing Chalre Chalre Waal while playing the guitar.

His performance introduced the Pakistani Saraiki song to another section of Indian social media users and added to the online buzz surrounding the melody.

A statement issued by her publicist repeated comments from earlier this week that Blair, who has ​multiple sclerosis, suffered a medical emergency on the flight from Los ​Angeles to New York. Blair did not try to open ⁠a door on the plane, as some media outlets reported, the statement ​said.

“There was no attempt to open the door of the aircraft. Selma ​did not intend to harm anyone,” the statement said.

Judge Joseph Montano ​said prosecutors could pursue new charges against Busfield. The actor has strongly ​denied allegations of improperly touching two young boys, twin brothers, on the ⁠Albuquerque set of Fox TV drama “The Cleaning Lady.”

A spokesperson for the Second ​Judicial District Attorney’s Office of New Mexico said the office was evaluating its options.

“The ​prosecuting attorney failed to act fairly and impartially,” Montano ⁠wrote, adding that the lawyer’s actions “had the practical effect of unilaterally withholding witnesses requested by the grand jurors.”

Khan, 43, is a US citizen, the Indian Express newspaper reported. Under ​Indian law, foreigners’ participation in political protests may be ​treated as a violation of immigration and visa ⁠rules.

Thelyson Orelien, 38, was accused of using artificial intelligence to write his French-language novel about migration “C’etait ca ou mourir” (“It Was Either That Or Die”), which was set to be translated in more than 20 countries.

The book has become shrouded in suspicion and been withdrawn from the shortlist for France’s top book prize, the Goncourt, after tests with AI detector Pangram indicated a 100-percent probability it contained computer-generated text.

“They say that ‘C’etait ca ou mourir’ was written by an artificial intelligence. That’s slander and heresy,” Orelien wrote in a statement sent exclusively to AFP.

“Here and there I did use tools for research, particularly for foreign idioms. But not a single sentence in this book was created by a machine, nor the meaning or the structure of a story that comes from my gut.”

At the height of the media storm around his book last month, Orelien had vowed to talk when “things calm down” and promised to provide “proof” that the book had been written without recourse to AI.

In his statement, he said he had started writing the book in late 2017 “on the corner of a table”, and he completed a first draft in 2019 of more than 300 pages — several years before the advent of AI-enabled text-generating services such as ChatGPT.

He has not made early drafts available, however, and his Canadian publisher Boreal has said it is unable to categorically confirm or deny the allegations of AI use.

Apology

The AI scandal surrounding Orelien is one of the biggest in the literary world, focusing attention on whether AI use is acceptable for novelists and leading to questions about the reliability of apps that claim to be able to detect text written by services such as ChatGPT or Claude.

Pangram is considered one of the most reliable and was tested by AFP on an excerpt of “It Was Either That or Die”, indicating a 100-per cent probability that Orelien had used AI to produce it.

AFP ran excerpts through other AI detection tools and came up with a variety of results — from it being “very likely” to have been written by a human to “100 per cent” AI-generated.

Orelien also addressed evidence of plagiarism which emerged in media reports in the weeks after the AI claims, in particular over a newspaper column and a short story he wrote before the publication of his novel.

He admitted to “unacceptable mistakes” without mentioning any specific cases.

“I was just over 20, I was probably a little too impatient, without really understanding how much I still had to learn. I wanted to write; I was reading a lot… But admiring someone does not give you the right to take, to claim as mine texts that are not my own,” he wrote.

“I deeply regret it and offer my heartfelt apologies without reservation.”

Orelien fled his native Haiti following a 2010 earthquake that struck the Caribbean island, already ravaged by poverty and unrest.

News of Mitte’s death in Brownsville, Texas, was confirmed in a statement released through the talent management agency that represented the actor. No other details about the circumstances of his death were given.

“It is with profound sadness that ​we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” the statement said.

Mitte was best known for his breakout role on the AMC cable TV series “Breaking Bad,” playing the only son of actor Bryan Cranston’s lead character, Walter White, a terminally ill high school teacher who descends into a secret life of crime cooking crystal meth.

Drawing from his real-life background as a person with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought a rare measure of ​genuineness to a television character whose physical disability was portrayed as largely incidental to the storyline.

His performance as Walter “Flynn” White Jr., who walked with crutches and spoke with a slur, gained early attention from fans who dubbed him “the breakfast king” for his recurring appearances in scenes around the family breakfast ​table.

But his role grew in prominence as the story arc of the series progressed. He starts as a carefree teenager ​who admires his father, then struggles to reckon with the family’s disintegration as the truth about Walter White’s meth-making “Heisenberg” alter ego emerges.

“Mitte brought authenticity ‌to ⁠the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion,” the statement said, noting his affiliation with several philanthropic organisations devoted to cerebral palsy and other muscle-control disorders.

The acclaimed series, often cited by critics as one of the best television dramas of all time, ran from 2008 to 2013, garnering 16 Emmy Awards, including two for best drama series.

Mitte later played a high school wrestler ​with cerebral palsy in the ​2021 coming-of-age film “Triumph.”

Mitte, whose credits ⁠also include the films “The Recall” and “The Oak Room,” had been working to promote a new movie, “Talking to Strangers,” appearing as a podcast guest to discuss the film in recent days, according to ​Hollywood trade publication Variety.

Off screen, Mitte served as a Screen Actors Guild spokesman for performers with disabilities and was a celebrity ambassador for the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation.

Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Mitte suffered brain damage at birth, was adopted as an infant and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age 3.

He was fitted with leg braces and crutches for much of his childhood, ⁠but through ​athletics and exercise eventually outgrew his need for walking devices.

According to Wikipedia, Mitte ​was raised by his adoptive mother following his parents’ separation and assumed financial responsibility for a younger sister and his mother at age 13, after she became ​paralysed.

Police identified Blair, known for roles in ​the movies “Cruel Intentions” and “Hellboy,” as the suspect in the incident ​on Sunday evening.

She was taken into custody at New ⁠York’s John F. Kennedy Airport and transported to a hospital ​for evaluation, police said in a statement.

Two flight attendants ​reported injuries, and one of them was taken to a hospital, according to the statement.

“Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behaviour, as the ​safety of our customers and crew always comes first,” the ​airline said in a statement on Monday.

According to a video clip posted online ‌of ⁠Blair’s arraignment hearing on assault charges in the New York City borough of Queens on Monday, the actor was also accused of kicking a police officer involved in her arrest and kicking ​a nurse at ​a hospital ⁠where she was taken afterwards.

Blair was later released on bond.

A representative for 54-year-old Blair said she ​had suffered a medical emergency during the flight.

“Selma ​experienced a ⁠medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct,” Blair’s representative said. “Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable ⁠condition.”

Blair ​has spoken publicly about her battle ​with multiple sclerosis. She was diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder in 2018.

Patekar reportedly died of a heart attack in Goa on October 8 at the age of 75.

While colleagues and admirers have paid tribute to his contribution to Indian cinema, his death has also brought renewed attention to allegations that emerged during India’s MeToo movement.

The latest discussion began after Mohapatra shared a social media post attributed to a former assistant director, who claimed to have witnessed inappropriate conduct involving Patekar while working on two films.

The individual alleged that some incidents took place under the pretext of filming scenes, making it difficult for those present to object.

The person also claimed to have discussed the incidents with a representative of the Cine and TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA).

The claims have not been independently verified, and the account does not establish that the alleged incidents occurred. The individual also said the allegations were unrelated to the film Horn ‘Ok’ Pleassss.

Reacting to the post on X, Mohapatra questioned why women who speak about alleged sexual misconduct face intense scrutiny.

She argued that an actor’s talent, charitable work or death should not automatically shield them from criticism or questions about their conduct.

Chinmayi Sripaada later reposted Mohapatra’s comments and criticised those offering unqualified praise for Patekar.

In her post, she alleged that the conduct attributed to the actor was not an isolated incident. Her comments reflected her personal views on the controversy and were not an independently established finding.

The renewed debate has also drawn attention to allegations made by actress Tanushree Dutta in 2018, which became a prominent part of India’s MeToo movement.

Dutta accused Patekar of sexually harassing her during the filming of Horn ‘Ok’ Pleassss. The actor denied the allegations.

Police registered a complaint following Dutta’s accusations but closed the investigation in 2019, citing insufficient evidence to proceed.

After news of Patekar’s death, Dutta faced criticism over remarks she made about the actor, including describing him as “evil dead”. Mohapatra subsequently defended Dutta’s right to speak about her experiences.

The controversy has once again raised questions about how allegations of misconduct should be addressed when prominent public figures are remembered after their deaths.

Garfield plays OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in the film, ​which unfolds over two decades and chronicles the conception and growth of the artificial intelligence ‌company behind ChatGPT and Altman’s dramatic firing and rehiring in 2023.

“I think the reason I was drawn to it was just pure curiosity and fear and really trying to understand as deeply as possible the people who are ushering us into ​this next phase of the world,” said Garfield.

“There’s a sense of courage and imagination and resilience ​these people at the top of these companies must have, the ability to withstand ⁠so much criticism and such a microscopic lens on them as people.

And it’s important that we ​do that because we need to know who’s in power and who’s creating our new world,“ he said.

Garfield, who ​also starred in the 2010 Facebook origin film “The Social Network”, did not contact or meet with Altman in preparation for the role.

“I don’t know Sam, and I have a lot of compassion for a person who’s my age, almost, and there’s a ​movie being made about him,” Garfield said. “It’s not him, but it’s an idea of what this story ​is and his part in it.”

OpenAI did not respond to a Reuters request for comment. In an interview with Vanity ‌Fair, Altman ⁠said he was not expecting an “accurate depiction”.

With a screenplay by Emmy-winning “Saturday Night Live” writer Simon Rich, “Artificial” stars Russian Oscar-nominee Yura Borisov as OpenAI co-founder and former chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, who left the company after his involvement in Altman’s brief ouster.

It follows the ethical differences and conflict over AI safety between Altman and ​Sutskever, who trained under Geoffrey ​Hinton, known as the “Godfather ⁠of AI”, portrayed in the film by Mark Rylance.

The film also stars Ike Barinholtz as Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Monica Barbaro plays Mira Murati, OpenAI’s former technology ​chief.

It was shot in 2025 and comes at a time of mounting ​concerns triggered ⁠by recent incidents at OpenAI and Anthropic that have sparked fears that rogue AI systems may slip beyond human control.

“It’s so fascinating making a film like this when the topic is so relevant right now,” said Barbaro. “We’d be on ⁠set, watching ​two people argue with each other on Twitter, who we ​were portraying in this movie.

It was really wild to have that experience. It’s exciting, and it’s also really daunting because you want ​to be truthful, but the truth seems to change every month.“

The singer and the Kansas City Chiefs star were seen leaving The Old Rose restaurant inside The Jane Hotel after their dinner date. Videos circulating online showed them walking down the steps towards a waiting vehicle.

The appeal came as BTS visited Peru for the first time, with the group scheduled to perform three shows at Estadio San Marcos on October 7, 9 and 10 as part of its ARIRANG world tour.

In a message shared on the day of the first concert, RM said the members and their staff were exhausted by people gathering outside their hotel. He also noted that the crowds were making it difficult for other guests staying at the property.

A Long-Standing Relationship With ARMY

BTS and its global fandom have previously addressed issues involving fan behaviour and public criticism of the group.

In September 2021, the band appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden after Corden faced criticism for joking about BTS’s appearance at the United Nations General Assembly.

Fans objected to his remarks about teenage girls and questioned his characterisation of the group’s visit as unusual.

During the band’s return to the programme in November 2021, RM raised the controversy directly with Corden, who apologised and said he had not intended to offend the fandom.

BTS has also encouraged fans to respect its privacy during sensitive moments, including the members’ military service, while ARMY communities have organised campaigns supporting causes such as anti-Asian hate awareness and Black Lives Matter.

The latest incident in Lima has renewed discussion about the importance of balancing fan enthusiasm with personal boundaries.

As BTS continues its world tour, supporters are being encouraged to show their appreciation at concerts while allowing the members to rest privately away from the stage.

“We’re excited about Paramount as a future ⁠partner who shares our creative ambitions for ​the Cyberpunk franchise,” Michal Nowakowski, joint-CEO of ​CD Projekt RED, said in a post on social media platform X late on Thursday. “We look forward ​to sharing more details at the appropriate ​time.”

CD Projekt RED told Reuters it had nothing to ‌add ⁠beyond Nowakowski’s post.

Cyberpunk 2077 had sold 40 million copies as of ​July 3, ​with its “Phantom ⁠Liberty” expansion selling 15 million. As of July 31, CD Projekt RED had ​184 developers working on a sequel ​to ⁠the 2020 title, with no launch date announced yet.

Paramount’s involvement should help sustain interest ⁠ahead ​of the next Cyberpunk instalment, ​Erste analyst Krzysztof Tkocz said.

Patekar was found unconscious at his home in the Dona Paula area and was rushed to Manipal Hospital, where doctors attempted to revive him with continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for around 45 minutes.

He was declared dead at about 5.20am.

His son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed the death, saying the actor died of natural causes.

Dr Shekhar Salkar, chief of the oncology department at Manipal Hospital, where Patekar was brought, said a medico-legal case had been registered and a post-mortem would be conducted.

He died of ​cardiac arrest, but it was unclear what triggered it, ⁠Shekhar Salkar told ANI.

Born Vishwanath Patekar on January 1, 1951, Nana was among the most respected actors in Hindi and Marathi cinema, known for his intense screen presence, powerful dialogue delivery and versatility in serious, emotional and negative roles.

He made his film debut with Gaman in 1978 and went on to deliver acclaimed performances in films including Salaam Bombay!, Parinda, Angaar, Tirangaa, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Khamoshi: The Musical, Yeshwant, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan and Raajneeti.

His performance in Parinda earned him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Patekar’s talent earned him several major honours, including two more National Film Awards and the Padma Shri in 2013 for his contribution to cinema and the arts.

Patekar acted in several of India’s ​arthouse movies in the 1970’s and 80s, including Mira Nair’s award-winning Salaam Bombay ‌before ⁠moving to mainstream Bollywood.

He played a variety of roles, sharing screen space with actors such as Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan and excelling in both serious and comic ​roles.

His performances, marked ​by trademark ⁠aggression and forceful dialogue, won him several national and regional film awards.

He remained closely connected to Marathi cinema and theatre throughout his career, while also showing a lighter side in the Welcome franchise, where audiences came to love his portrayal of Uday Shetty.

“He was one of ​those rare actors who never needed to do ​too ⁠much to make you sit up and watch. That voice, that intensity, that honesty in every performance…he was completely his own,” said ⁠actor ​Akshay Kumar, who acted with Patekar ​in several movies.

Patekar is survived by his wife, from whom he was separated, ​and a son.

Away from the screen, Patekar also devoted time to social causes and co-founded the Naam Foundation with actor Makarand Anaspure to help farmers and families affected by agrarian distress.

His final film appearance was in Suresh Triveni’s Subedaar, in which he starred alongside Anil Kapoor.

In a career spanning over decades, Patekar carved out a distinctive place for himself in Bollywood.

He will be remembered for the emotion, depth, intensity and versatility he brought to his roles.

Last rites

The last rites of Nana Patekar will be performed at his farmhouse in Donje on the outskirts of Pune on Thursday, according to a representative of his social organisation, Naam Foundation.

Foundation CEO Ganesh Thorat said Patekar’s mortal remains were expected to arrive at the farmhouse around 5pm, after which they would be kept there for the public to pay their last respects.

The last rites will be conducted on the farmhouse premises.

State funeral

Meanwhile, a Maharashtra minister said Patekar would be accorded a state funeral in recognition of his contribution to Marathi theatre and Marathi and Hindi cinema.

Ashish Shelar said the actor’s last rites would be conducted with full state honours, describing his contribution to the arts as “unparalleled”.

Saint died of natural causes at her home ‌in Los Angeles, a statement from her spokesperson said.

Saint won an Oscar in her film debut for her portrayal of the virtuous Edie Doyle in director Elia Kazan’s gritty 1954 drama On the Waterfront, then changed direction as the spy Eve Kendall in director Alfred Hitchcock’s 1959 thriller North by Northwest.

The New Jersey native worked with a procession of big-name directors and stars ​after honing her craft at the Actors Studio, Lee Strasberg’s famed “method acting” school in New York.

Otto Preminger hired her for Exodus (1960) with Paul Newman, ​while John Frankenheimer directed her in both All Fall Down (1962) with Warren Beatty and Grand Prix (1966) with James Garner.

Vincente Minnelli directed ⁠Saint in The Sandpiper (1965) with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, while Norman Jewison cast her in the Cold War satire The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming (1966), ​an Oscar best picture nominee.

Saint said her mentor was the great silent film actress Lillian Gish, who appeared with her in a 1953 production of the ​play The Trip to Bountiful that brought her to Kazan’s attention.

He picked Saint for On the Waterfront over Elizabeth Montgomery.

The uncompromising film depicts the struggles of dockworkers on New York’s rough waterfront.

Brando played former boxer Terry Malloy, who runs afoul of a corrupt union but defies the odds to become a hero with the help of Saint’s innocent but strong-willed ​Catholic girl Edie, who sees more good in him than he sees in himself.

Saint was 30 at the time but was playing a schoolgirl.

On the ​Waterfront won eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, with Kazan named best director, Brando best actor and Saint best supporting actress.

Saint was pregnant when she accepted her Oscar in ‌March 1955. ⁠She gingerly walked to the stage, kissed the golden statuette and excitedly told the audience, “I may have the baby right here!” Two days after the ceremony, she gave birth to her first child, Darrell Hayden.

‘An empty stomach’

North by Northwest was a suspenseful espionage thriller, with Saint portraying a seductive spy in a tale of mistaken identity involving Grant’s advertising man Roger Thornhill.

Famous sequences include a crop-dusting plane pursuing Grant and a frantic chase involving Grant and Saint climbing the ​colossal US presidential faces carved into ​Mount Rushmore.

Hitchcock guided Grant and Saint ⁠through witty, suggestive dialogue that skirted the edge of what studios would allow at the time.

One of Saint’s lines — provocatively telling Grant “I never make love on an empty stomach” — was changed to the more benign “I never discuss love ​on an empty stomach.”

North by Northwest — like On the Waterfront — often considered one of the greatest films ever made — received ​three Oscar nominations ⁠but won none.

Saint was born on July 4, 1924, in New Jersey. Her early career was spent in live television productions in the formative years of the medium.

She married veteran TV director Jeffrey Hayden in 1951 — a marriage that lasted until his death in 2016 — and they had two children. She starred in about ⁠20 movies but ​turned down many roles to devote time to her family.

Later in her career, Saint often ​returned to TV work. She won an Emmy Award in 1990 for her performance in the drama People Like Us.

She also took movie roles into her 80s, including Because of Winn-Dixie (2005), Winter’s Tale (2014) and Superman ​Returns (2006), a film in which Brando appeared posthumously using 1970s archive footage.

The deal brings together the studios behind “Mission: Impossible,” “Harry Potter” and DC Studios alongside major television ​and streaming networks such as CBS, CNN, Paramount+ and HBO Max — forming an expansive entertainment company spanning film, TV and news.

The merger is a chance “to build the next-generation media and entertainment company, powered by creativity and ‌technology,” Ellison said in a memo to employees on Tuesday, outlining his vision. The goal, he added, was not simply to get bigger but “to take on the biggest players in our industry.”

The new company, called Skydance, is the latest iteration of a conglomerate once controlled by the late Sumner Redstone that has precipitously shrunk over the years, as audiences flock to news and entertainment delivered by a growing cadre of smaller publishers and creators who are chipping away at once-mighty Hollywood.

Skydance not only faces competition from Netflix, Disney and others, but also from tech companies Apple, Meta, and Amazon, as well as the growing ​threat of AI.

Ellison said the merger was necessary to better take on these challengers at a time when the media industry had become complacent.

“They allowed Netflix to disrupt their business,” he told reporters in a press conference on Tuesday. “They allowed ​Amazon Prime Video to come and disrupt their business. They didn’t transform, and they held on to the past for too long.”

Shares of the combined company moved to the New York Stock ⁠Exchange from Nasdaq on Tuesday to trade under the ticker “SKYD.”

Settlements with a coalition of US states and a Hollywood writers union removed the main legal barriers to the merger, one of the largest in media history. It comes as Hollywood faces declining cable-TV subscriptions, the ​high cost of competing for streaming audiences and persistent pressure from unions over jobs and creative workers’ rights.

Trump’s CNN problem

President Donald Trump expressed approval on Tuesday when asked about the deal. “It’s going to be a great company,” he told reporters. “That’s a great merger. I’m glad they let ​it go.”

Trump has attacked news organisations since his first term, and he recently took the unprecedented step of banning several news outlets from the White House, including CNN. The move came weeks ahead of the November 3 midterm elections in which Trump’s fellow Republicans are defending narrow majorities in Congress.

CNN chief Mark Thompson and CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss will continue in their respective leadership roles in the new company, and each will separately report to Ellison and co-CEO Ynon Kreiz, allaying concerns from critics that Weiss, who took over as CBS News editor-in-chief in 2025, would have greater control over all of Skydance’s news ​operations.

The concerns are also fueled by lawmakers’ criticism of Ellison for tailoring news coverage at Paramount-owned CBS News to favour Trump. As part of the settlement, Ellison agreed to create an editorial independence board to oversee CNN and CBS. Experts warn that the board will ​be “toothless.”

Ellison said last week the Skydance name was chosen to retain the individual identities of Paramount and Warner Bros. studios, rather than combining them under a new brand.

Wall Street analysts, however, said the name reinforces the extent of Ellison’s control, highlighting how some of Hollywood’s most iconic brands now ‌answer to him ⁠and how he has a platform to impose his strategy and culture.

In just 16 years, Skydance has gone from an independent studio to the centre of one of Hollywood’s biggest power plays. Founded in 2010 by the son of Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, it built its reputation as a financial backer and producer of Paramount’s blockbuster “Top Gun: Maverick.”

After merging with Paramount last year, Skydance set its sights on Warner Bros., entering a heated bidding contest with Netflix while drawing interest from other potential suitors, including Comcast.

Warner Bros shareholders received an additional $41.9 million in a “ticking fee,” based on the number of days between September-end and the deal-closing, according to a regulatory filing.

Broader Hollywood Bet

Ellison named Kreiz as Skydance co-CEO to run day-to-day operations and lead the integration, while Ellison oversees creative direction and overall strategy.

Kreiz, former CEO of ​Mattel, was also appointed to the company’s board on Tuesday, alongside ​former Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick, and Laurene Powell ⁠Jobs, the founder of the Emerson Collective, and publisher of the Atlantic. In bringing on Kreiz, Ellison has signalled the need for a cost-cutter. The duo faces the task of combining two large companies while delivering $6 billion in planned savings, a big part of which Paramount said would come from “non-labour sources.”

That includes combining technology ​and cloud providers of the two companies, but the scale of the cuts is expected to affect jobs across Hollywood.

Skydance plans to combine its streaming services, including HBO Max and Paramount+, ​into a single service and has pledged to ⁠release at least 30 films each in the first two years after closing, rising to 32 a year for the following three.

The combined company is also expected to carry about $80 billion in debt, putting pressure on Ellison to grow streaming, preserve cash flow from cable networks and improve theatrical film performance. Ellison has pledged to spend $30 billion or more each year on content.

Analysts at MoffettNathanson forecast core operating profit, or EBITDA, of $16 billion for 2028, rising to $19 billion in 2030. The research firm also predicted about $67 billion in revenue in 2028, growing to roughly $70 billion ⁠in 2030.

Ellison’s annual ​base salary will be $5 million, with a target annual bonus of $5 million, according to the regulatory filing.

The tech scion offered a cold assessment of the deal ​when Reuters asked how he planned to win over a sceptical Hollywood where many had expressed deep apprehensions over the transaction.

“I understand why everyone felt the way that they did,” he said, “but I think if you’re intellectually honest, you need to zoom out and to see that the symptoms of this go back a long ​time, and then you start asking yourself, ‘What was the alternative?’”

Kher shared his happiness over meeting De Niro on social media, describing him as his “dearest friend” and one of the world’s finest actors.

Kher also expressed his gratitude to De Niro, Tiffany and their family for the warm welcome, saying the meeting gave him another beautiful memory to take home. He also thanked De Niro for the cap he gifted him, saying the gesture meant a lot to him.

The meeting comes as Kher continues his international tour with ‘Jaane Pehchaane Anjaane’, a stage production presented by Anupam Kher Studio.

The play features Kher alongside actor Swaroop Sampat, while its music has been composed by Anu Malik. It marks the first time Malik has created music for a stage play.

Gunn confirmed the update in response to a comment on Threads asking whether he was ready to begin writing his next film.

“Already in it. I had to do something while I was waiting for the assembly!” Gunn replied, also confirming that the assembly cut of ‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’ is complete.

Gunn had earlier announced in August that filming for the superhero sequel had wrapped.

A sequel to the 2025 film ‘Superman’, the upcoming movie will once again feature David Corenswet as Superman. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on July 9, 2027.

‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’ will follow Superman as he joins forces with his adversary Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult, to face a greater threat in the form of the superintelligent villain Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger.

Rachel Brosnahan will return as Lois Lane, alongside Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.

Milly Alcock, who appeared as Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El, will also return for the sequel. The film will additionally introduce Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, a character who will debut in the HBO Max series ‘Lanterns’.

Gunn has been leading DC Studios alongside Peter Safran since 2022.

Speaking to Variety earlier, Gunn praised Safran for complementing his working style and helping keep DC Studios aligned across its different departments. He also said they share a strong connection to the characters and understand the responsibility of shaping how audiences see them.

‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’ is set to arrive in theatres on July 9, 2027.
