Imran Rashid, a professor of psychology at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), is being called out by people on Twitter for sending out abusive emails to students. Screenshots of these emails were shared by a Twitter user Shanza Faiq, a LUMSU alumna. Faiq, while sharing these screenshots, wrote:

"Disgusted to read these emails sent by a LUMS professor to his students. [the] Irony is, he teaches Psychology. Despite being a proud LUMS alumna, I shall never be one who lets her affiliations make her biased. What’s wrong is wrong. This is absolutely unacceptable."

In these emails, addressed to students, Rashid used words like "Duffers", "Morons", and "Knuckleheads".

These leaked emails have sparked outrage on Twitter with many questioning his credentials as a psychologist if he is potentially damaging the self-esteem of his students.

A Twitter user that goes by the name of Blue on Blue wrote:

What has happened to Lums. How is this being tolerated by the admin. And to think this guy teaches psychology

One of Rashid's former students called his behavior unprofessional:

Zain Habib in a tweet called Rashid's tone appalling:

Don’t think this is about bias at all. There’s a deep-rooted social interaction issue here. The language and the tone is appalling - for any human to human interaction. This person needs behavioural therapy. How did this person even land a job at a university?! Who hired them?

Bissmah Mehmud aptly described what a teacher should or shouldn't do:

My mother was a teacher and she used to say the worst thing you can do to someone 'learning' from you, is make them feel stupid or be condescending...how did this guy get a job!!!

Asma Ansarie shared that such behavior can result in irreversible effects on the lives of students as well as the society:

There should be a psychological screening to qualify for becoming a teacher as psychologically unstable teachers can damage the self confidence & esteem of students resulting in irreversible effects on their lives & society as well

Another former student of Rashid's recalled her own experience and added that such aggressive behavior shouldn't be tolerated:

Took a course with him in lums. He was always known for his bluntness & dark humour. He was an expert on satire. Before taking his course, you always knew the man was not for the weak hearted. It was just his vibe. But he was a good teacher & grew on the class after a while. 1/2

Dr. Imran Rashid is serving as an assistant professor at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at LUMS since fall 2006.
